What this site is
Project Party lets neighbors post work that's hard to do alone and lets other neighbors offer to help. It is free. There are no fees, no wages, no time credits, and no ledger of who owes whom. Nobody here is for hire, and asking to be paid — or offering to pay for labor — is not what this is for.
Who can use it
- You must be 18 or older to have an account, host a project, or join one.
- One account per person, under a name your neighbors would recognize.
- You're responsible for anything done from your account.
If you host a project
When you post a project you're confirming all of the following:
- The people who come are community volunteers. They are not your employees, not contractors, and not workers you are hiring.
- You are responsible for a reasonably safe work site.
- You will tell helpers about hazards before they arrive — the loose step, the bad dog, the wasp nest, the ledge.
- You have described the work honestly, including how physical it actually is.
- You have checked your own homeowner's or property insurance and understand what it does and does not cover if a volunteer is hurt on your property. Project Party provides no coverage of any kind.
- You will not ask anyone to do work on the excluded list below.
Work we won't coordinate
Projects involving any of this will be rejected. Hire a licensed contractor instead.
- Electrical work beyond swapping a fixture or outlet cover
- Any gas, propane, or oil line work
- Felling trees, or chainsaw work near buildings or power lines
- Structural demolition, or anything holding up a roof or floor
- Roof work above single-story eave height
- Well, septic, or septic-tank entry work
- Anything requiring a licensed trade, a permit, or an inspection
- Work involving firearms, explosives, or stump-blasting
- Asbestos, lead paint, mold, or hazardous material removal
- Anything you'd normally pay a contractor for specifically because of the risk
If you help on a project
- You're choosing to be there. You can leave at any time, for any reason or none.
- Do not do work you aren't comfortable or physically able to do. Nobody is keeping score and there is no obligation to prove anything.
- Bring your own protective gear when it makes sense — gloves, boots, eye protection.
- Show up when you say you will, or withdraw so the host can fill your spot. Attendance is recorded and other hosts can see it.
- If a site looks unsafe or the job isn't what was described, leave and report it.
Addresses and privacy
Public listings show a town and an approximate area only. A host's exact address goes out only to people the host has accepted. Don't republish someone's address, photos of their property, or anything else you learned by being there.
We store your name, email, town, and your project history. Your email is never shown to other members. We do not sell member data. See the Privacy Notice for more detail.
Feedback and reputation
After a project the host records who attended, and both sides can leave short feedback. Write what happened. Don't write anything you wouldn't say to the person's face in the driveway. Retaliatory, false, or abusive reviews get removed and can cost you your account.
Getting removed
We can suspend or remove any account or listing, at any time, for any reason — including no-shows, dishonest listings, harassment, soliciting paid work, or anything that makes this feel unsafe. There's a report button on every project.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows: Project Party is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind. We are not liable for injury, property damage, theft, loss, or any dispute arising between members, on or off a project site. You agree not to hold Project Party or its operator responsible for what another member does.
Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot be waived under Maine law.
Changes
If these rules change materially, you'll be asked to read and accept the new version before hosting or joining another project.
